John Galloway resigned after he won a judgeship in November. His departure created a tie. But another resignation Friday, by Republican Joe Adams, gave Democrats a clean 101- 100 advantage. Republicans control the state Senate, while Democrats hold the governorship. The win in Bucks County— a crimson slice of the northern suburbs of Philadelphia — was hailed as good news by national Democrats, some of whom had viewed the contest as an early bellwether of the party’s fortunes among affluent voters ahead of the 2024 election. Yet the Biden campaign weighed in on the victory, touting it as evidence that Bucks County voters would reject Donald Trump in the fall. ” With control of the state House on the line, Pennsylvanians suddenly defeated Republicans ‘ anti- abortion agenda and voted for Jim Prokopiak, a Democrat who has stood up for women and working people”, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, a Biden campaign manager, reportedly said. With 100 % of precincts reporting, the (tentative ) final results for PA HD- 140 are as follows: Jim Prokopiak: 67.3 % (6, 462 )
Candace Cabanas: 32.1 % (3, 079 ) D+35.2 in the end. An absolutely amazing overperformance in this Biden+10 seat by around ~25 points. — Joshua Smithley ( @blockedfreq ) February 14, 2024According to Decision Desk HQ, Prokopiak defeated Cabanas by a 67.7 % to 32.3 % tally. Spotlight PA wrote: Prokopiak is the fifth Democrat to win a special election since the start of the latest legislative session in January 2023. During this period, the party has navigated a half- dozen vacancies created by a death, members winning another offices, and a resignation subject to allegations of sexual harassment. Due to the political registration and voting history of the district, the Democrat was favored to win Tuesday’s election. Similar circumstances existed for the various five specific elections. Democrats will once more hold 102 of the lower chamber’s 203 seats when Prokopiak takes office. The party can advance their priorities, like as a minimum wage increase and increased education spending, and block what they oppose, like stricter abortion restrictions or making it simpler to block state regulations, thanks to the plain majority. Nevertheless, the Democratic Governor and the party benefit from this victory. In the upcoming budget negotiations, Josh Shapiro will have leverage. [[{“value”:”

A stunning overperformance by approximately 25 points in this Biden+10 Seat. Joshua Smithley (@blockedfreq), February 14, 2024 According Decision Desk HQ’s results, Prokopiak defeated Cabanas with a 67.7%-to-32.33% tally. Spotlight PA reported that Prokopiak was the sixth Democrat since the start the last legislative session in January of 2023 to win a Special Election. In this time, the party has had to deal with a half dozen vacancies caused by a death, new members taking on other positions, and resignations due to allegations of harassment. The district’s voting history and political registration made the Democrat the favorite to win the election on Tuesday. The other five special election results were similar. Democrats will once again hold 102 out of 203 seats when Prokopiak assumes office. The party can set the agenda for the state House and advance its priorities, like a minimum-wage hike and increased education funding, while blocking what it opposes, like stricter abortion restrictions and making it easier to stop state regulations. This win is a big boost for the party and Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro has a lot of leverage in the upcoming budget negotiations.
