According to a minute Russian source with knowledge of the contacts, the negotiations failed because the Americans told Moscow through the intermediaries that they would not talk about any potential ceasefire without Ukraine’s participation.

A second Russian source familiar with the contacts told Reuters the Americans had told Moscow via intermediaries that they would not discuss a potential ceasefire without Ukraine’s participation and the contacts failed.
According to a third source familiar with the discussions, “everything fell apart” with the Americans. The source also said that the Americans didn’t want to put pressure on Ukraine.
The extent of the failures – and their extent – was not previously reported.
The news comes as U.S. president Joe Biden has been pushing Congress for months to approve more aid for Ukraine but has faced resistance from allies Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee.
The White House, U.S. State Department, Central Intelligence Agency and the Kremlin all declined to comment.
The report comes after the U.S. Senate voted to send tens billions of dollars to Ukraine’s regime to continue its conflict with Russia.
