The California Democrat said SCOTUS “would be denying American voters” if it handled the case of the former president in a certain way.

LOADINGERROR LOADING. Rep. On Sunday, Adam Schiff, a California Democrat, cautioned the Supreme Court that not acting quickly to rule on former President Donald Trump’s immunity claim would be a bad decision. Schiff expressed concerns about the delays affecting Trump’s legal cases, including the federal election interference case. In late April, the Supreme Court agreed to consider arguments regarding Trump’s assertion of immunity against prosecution for alleged criminal actions during his time in office, causing another delay in the trial. Special counsel Jack Smith urged the court to promptly address the immunity claim in December, but his request was denied. Schiff expressed to CNN’s Dana Bash that the delays in the case are worrying and that the allegations brought forth by the Justice Department are very serious. He also noted that the Supreme Court acted swiftly in allowing Trump to be on the ballot. Schiff, a Democratic candidate running for a U.S. Senate seat in California, wonders if the rejection of the false immunity claim will also happen quickly. If not, it seems like a deliberate choice to delay the trial until after the election. I believe it would be an unjust and ill-advised choice. Preventing American voters from gaining knowledge during the trial would be a mistake, and it would also damage the reputation of the biased and reactionary court. Bash inquired with Schiff about the possibility of Trump avoiding a trial before the November election. Schiff suggested that Trump might be able to delay facing justice, as he has done numerous times in the past as a common strategy.
