FACT-CHECK: “Anus Eating Virus” Spreading Fast, Kills 30% Of Those Infected

[[{“value”:”It’s Friday night and that means we need to have a much fun.
I saw this article before today and saved it for researching right now.
Let’s dig in and do a Fact- Check on this up, shall we?
It’s really kind of interesting….
How’s the headline:

That’s why I say it’s Friday night and we’re having fun because that is one heck of a headline!
But…is it real?
It all comes from this DailyStar article which reads as follows:
A mystery flesh- eating disease that kills around 30 % of people who become infected is spreading fast around Japan.
In the initial two months of 2024, some 378 cases of streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS) were detected in the country. Last year it is believed that were 941 cases, which has caused concern that this year is set to surpass that number by some distance.
STSS is caused by a more serious form of the bacteria that causes Streptococcal A, the strep A throat infection common in children.
Infections this year have been detected in all but two in all but two of Japan’s 47 prefectures, raising eyebrows about how popular the bacteria has become. The Japan Times reports that there are generally fewer than 200 cases per year of this most significant group A streptococcal disease.
What is so concerning about this special spate, however, is that experts have admitted that they are now none the wiser about what it is that’s causing it. A National Institute of Infectious Diseases ( NIID ) spokesperson said:” There are still many unknown factors regarding forms of streptococcus with a severe and sudden onset. We are never at the stage where we can explain them”.
According to the UK Health Security Agency, Strep A is a bacteria that can grow in the throat, on the skin, and in the anus and genitals and can cause a number of conditions that affect the skin and smooth tissue. Repeated conditions of Strep A, which affect around 50million people around the world, can lead to inflammatory issues regarding the heart. Per year, serious cases of Strep A claimed around half a million lives and the condition is caught through close contact with people with it.
I actually had to laugh at this Tweet, which wins in the Internet for today:
” Anus- eating’ virus that kills 30 % of people is spreading in Japan”.
Are we gonna have to wear b- hole masks?? @KevinandSluggo @955KLOS https ://t.co/WvwssnPdWd pic. twitter.com/gUfcyMsJDw

Certainly that butthole mask will protect us!
Hilarious and also done sir!
Now here’s where it actually started to catch my attention.
When I searched Google for this to see what came away, I got this screen:
Have you seen that screen when?
I have, but I have ONLY ever seen it when there’s a breaking news story that Google does not want you to know about.
So they need to buy themselves some time to figure out how they want to censor ( errrrr, I mean “present” ) the story to the world. But they throw this screen up there.
Dead giveaway that the story is not only real but something they do n’t want you to see.
They often take this down after all the big” Fact Checking Companies” write their articles telling you why it’s actually quite misleading, indeed, really!
Finally I found this fairly new article from the NY Post which certainly does seem to describe an “anus eating virus” — in the first paragraph no less!
A mom of two from Scotland feels “lucky to be dead” after a unique flesh- eating disease left her with a butt wound 20 centimeters strong.
It “looks like a peach that someone has taken a big bite out of on one side”, Tracy de Jongh Eglin, 59, lamented to SWNS.
The past events manager, who then lives in the Netherlands, said she began displaying flu- like symptoms on Jan. 20 — she was rushed to the hospital five days later after going into septic shock and collapsing.
Medics identified a big black mass on her left buttock, and Eglin was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis, a life- threatening bacterial infection.
She spent nine days in a coma and underwent three surgeries to remove the infected tissue and muscle — her family was reportedly told that she only had a 10 % chance of survival. Unexpectedly, she pulled over.
” It’s been so distressing and changed my life forever”, Eglin said. ” I’ve lost]70 pounds ] and had to learn to walk again. Even now, I still ca n’t sit down and have to take a special pillow out with me wherever I go”.
Eglin’s husband, Aldrik, 65, grew concerned in January when his wife began sweating profusely and struggled to walk.
She was taken to Gelderland Valley Hospital in the Netherlands, where she was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis. The fast liberal infection destroys delicate tissue.
” My husband had to drive behind the ambulance, not knowing whether I’d come out of it alive”, Eglin described.
The cause of the infection is not clear, although doctors apparently informed Eglin that it could have been from something as simple as an ingrown hair or a spot.
Then, if you happen to catch this virus, I do think it is an absolutely obligation of a friend or family member close to you to at some point make the joke:” Rectum? Damn near killed’ em”!
Here’s more about STSS:
Streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS) is a rare, but serious and possibly life- menacing condition caused by certain strains of Streptococcus bacteria. These bacteria, particularly Group A Streptococcus ( GAS ), can release toxins into the body that trigger a swift and overwhelming immune response. This response can lead to shock, multi- organ failure, and, in serious cases, death.
The vital features of STSS include the following:
Sudden onset: Symptoms can develop fast and may first resemble another, less intense illnesses, making earlier diagnosis challenging.
Shock and organ failure: The bacteria produce toxins that can lead to a sharp drop in blood pressure ( shock ) and damage to various organs (organ failure ).
Skin manifestations: While not always present, some patients may have skin manifestations, including a rash or necrotizing fasciitis ( a serious infection that causes the death of tissues ), commonly known as the flesh- eating disease.
Another symptoms: These can include high fever, intense pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and confusion or altered mental status due to the toxins affecting the body’s systems.
STSS can occur after a strep throat, skin infection, or even following modest skin injuries where the bacteria can enter the body. It can also develop in individuals with no visible past injury or infection.
Treatment for STSS usually involves intense antibiotic therapy to combat the infection, support for any organ systems that have been affected, and, in cases where necrotizing fasciitis is current, surgical removal of dead tissue. First recognition and treatment are essential for improving outcomes, as the condition can rapidly progress to life- disturbing stages.
Preventive measures include practicing good hygiene, immediately treating staph infections with appropriate antibiotics, and being vigilant for signs and symptoms of serious infection, especially if you have just had a strep infection or skin wound.
So there you go!
We rate this” MOSTLY TRUE”!”}]] [[{“value”:”

It’s Friday and we need to have some fun.
I saved this article for later research.
Let’s do a fact-check on this together.
It’s kind of interesting
Here’s the headline

It’s because of this headline that I say, “It’s Friday Night and We’re Having Fun!”
But…is this true?
This DailyStar article reads:

A mysterious flesh-eating illness that kills about 30% of those infected has spread rapidly throughout Japan.
In the first two month of 2024, 378 cases of STSS (streptococcal toxic-shock syndrome) were detected. In the last year, there were believed to be 941 cases. This year is expected to surpass this number by a considerable distance.
STSS is caused a more severe strain of Streptococcal, the bacteria that causes the strep throat infection in children.
Infections have been detected this year in all but 2 of Japan’s 47 Prefectures. This raises eyebrows at the extent to which the bacteria has spread. The Japan Times reports there are typically fewer than 200 cases of this most severe streptococcal group A disease per year.
The fact that experts admit that they have no idea what is causing this particular outbreak is extremely concerning. National Institute of Infectious Diseases spokesperson: “There are many unknown factors with regards to forms of streptococcus that have a sudden and severe onset.” We are still not at a stage where we can explain these cases.
According to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), Strep A bacteria can grow in the mouth, on the skin, in the genitals, and anus. It can cause a variety of conditions that can affect the soft tissue and skin. Strep A can cause autoimmune heart issues if it is repeated. Around 50 million people are affected by Strep A around the world. Around half a million people die each year from severe cases of Strep A. The condition is spread through close contact with those who have it.

This Tweet is the winner of today’s Internet.

In Japan, a virus that kills 30 percent of people by eating their flesh is spreading.

We are sure that the butthole mask is going to protect us!
Well done, sir!
Here’s where I really started to pay attention.
This is what I saw when I searched Google to see what I could find:

Have you ever seen this screen before?
I have seen it, but only when there is a breaking story that Google doesn’t want you to be aware of.
They need to buy some time so they can figure out how to censor the story (errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I mean “present” the story to the rest of the world. They put this screen there.
The story is real, but they don’t want to show it.
The “Fact Checking Companies”, who are the biggest in the industry, usually write articles explaining why this is false.
I then found this article from the NY Post, which describes an “anus-eating virus” in the very first paragraph.

A mother of two from Scotland says she is “lucky to still be alive” following a rare flesh eating disease that left her with a 20 centimeter deep butt injury.
SWNS reported that it “looks like someone has eaten a large chunk out of one side of a peach.” Tracy de Jongh Eglin (59) lamented this to SWNS.
The former event manager, who lives in the Netherlands now, began to display flu-like symptoms Jan. 20. She was rushed into the hospital five days after she collapsed and went into septic shock.

Eglin said, “It has changed my life forever.” “I lost [70 pounds] – and had to learn how to walk again. Even now, I can’t sit and I have to carry a special pillow with me everywhere I go.
Aldrik Eglin, 65, became concerned when his wife, Eglin, began to sweat profusely in January and struggled with walking.
She was transported to Gelderland Valley Hospital, in the Netherlands, and diagnosed with necrotizing faciitis. The infection is rapidly progressing and destroys soft tissues.
Eglin said, “My husband drove behind the ambulance not knowing if I would survive.”
The cause of infection is not known, but doctors told Eglin it could be as simple as a spot or an ingrown hair.

If you catch this virus, it is my belief that a close friend or family member must at some point tell the joke: “Rectum?” “Damn near killed them!”
Find out more about STSS

Streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS), a rare but potentially life-threatening condition, is caused by certain strains Streptococcus. These bacteria, especially Group A Streptococcus(GAS), can release toxin into the body which triggers a rapid and overwhelming immune reaction. This can cause shock, organ failure, and in severe cases death.
The following are the key features of STSS:

Sudden onset – Symptoms may appear suddenly and initially resemble symptoms of other, less serious illnesses, making it difficult to diagnose.
Shock and organ damage: The bacteria can produce toxins which can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure and damage to different organs.
Skin manifestations: Although not always present, certain patients may experience skin manifestations such as a rash, or necrotizing faciitis (a severe illness that causes tissue death), also known as flesh-eating disorder.
Other symptoms: These include high fever, severe discomfort, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. There may also be confusion or altered mental state due to toxins that affect the body’s system.

STSS can develop after a strep infection, a skin infection, and even minor skin injuries that allow bacteria to enter the body. It can also occur in people who have never had an apparent injury or infection.
STSS is treated with aggressive antibiotics to combat the infection and support for any organs that have been affected. In cases of necrotizing fasciitis, surgery may be required to remove dead tissue. Early diagnosis and treatment is crucial to improve outcomes as the condition can quickly progress to life-threatening levels.
Practice good hygiene and promptly treat streptococcal infection with appropriate antibiotics. Be vigilant for signs and symptom of severe infection.

That’s it!
This is “mostly TRUE”
