Rachel Maddow, the host of MSNBC, expressed confusion on Monday about the network’s decision to hire Ronna McDaniel, the former chair of the Republican National Committee. Maddow is joining other program hosts and reporters in criticizing NBC for bringing McDaniel on board after she left her position with the national Republican Party in February. The network faced backlash for hiring her, with high-profile journalists like Chuck Todd noting her involvement in promoting former President Donald Trump’s baseless election fraud claims. Maddow agreed and compared the hiring to putting a criminal in a position of authority. Maddow found it bewildering that McDaniel is on the payroll at NBC News. Trump appointed his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, as co-chair of the RNC in March, along with fellow election denier Michael Whatley as chair. “She contributed and assisted.” Rachel Maddow details Ronna McDaniel’s influence in strengthening Donald Trump’s position within the Republican Party and supporting his efforts to undermine democracy in America.
