Despite facing challenges, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is continuing to pursue her election interference case against former President Donald Trump, even after one of the investigators, who also happened to be her former romantic partner, was removed from the case. Willis told CNN on Saturday that while the media was focused on the public hearings discussing her relationship, her team was still working diligently on the substance of the case, preparing responses and briefs. Willis stated that she does not believe they have been hindered in any way, despite efforts to delay progress. She mentioned that there are attempts to slow down the legal proceedings, but ultimately, justice will prevail. Judge Scott McAfee gave Willis and her attorney, Nathan Wade, an ultimatum in a recent ruling, stating that one of them had to step down from the case. Willis had hired Wade as a special prosecutor, but later admitted to dating him, leading to complications in the legal proceedings. Trump and over a dozen other defendants are alleged to have participated in different ways in attempts to undermine the 2020 presidential election in this case. CNN stated this week that Willis plans to hold a trial for Trump before November. In the upcoming presidential election, possibly happening as early as this summer, Willis was asked on Saturday if she felt the urge to restore her reputation. She replied by saying she does not feel the need to reclaim her reputation and stated that she is not ashamed of any of her actions. She stated that her biggest mistake was having a romantic relationship with a man, but she doesn’t feel ashamed of it and believes it is not illegal. McAfee considered the corruption allegations in his lengthy ruling.
