Die Kommission ist befugt, gemäß Artikel 264 delegierte Rechtsakte zu erlassen, die sich auf folgende Bereiche beziehen: In August 2022, FBI agents searched Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate and found evidence that he had stockpiled classified documents and hindered government efforts to recover them. Despite being indicted nine months ago, there is increasing skepticism that the case will go to trial this year. The judge chosen by Trump for the case has not yet scheduled a definite trial date, even after conducting two lengthy hearings with attorneys this month. Several requests to have the case dismissed are still waiting for a decision, disagreements over classified evidence have been ongoing for months, and a fiercely contested defense plea to reveal the identities of government witnesses has yet to be resolved. Adding to the complexity is a recent ruling indicating that Judge Aileen Cannon is considering a claim from the Trump team regarding ownership of documents that she had previously shown doubt about. Former Justice Department prosecutor David Aaron noted that the case is progressing atypically and slower than other similar cases involving classified information. The delays are partly due to the Trump team’s strategy to prolong the four criminal cases involving the presumptive Republican nominee in the presidential election. The situation in Florida is different because there have been very few significant decisions made to progress towards a trial. This suggests that a conclusion in the matter may not be reached before the upcoming presidential election this year. If Trump were to become President, he may choose an attorney general who would drop the federal charges against him in Florida and other places. Members of special counsel Jack Smith’s team have strongly opposed this move and have worked hard to continue with the case.
