The Epoch Times:
The bill is being introduced as opening arguments for President Trump’s “hush money” trial are scheduled to begin on April 22, 2019. On April 19, a full jury and alternates jurors were selected for the case. In the case, President Trump faces 34 charges. Each count carries a maximum prison sentence of four years.
In this case, it is alleged that President Trump falsified his records of business in order to divert funds to his former attorney Michael Cohen.
The funds were allegedly given to Mr. Cohen for him to make hush money payments to bury stories that were controversial and linked to the former President. The case revolves around a $130,000 payment made by Mr. Cohen in order to bury controversial stories linked to the former president.
The payment was made to prevent Daniels from revealing publicly during the 2016 election campaign that she had a relationship with the former President in the mid 2000s. President Trump has denied having the affair and making the payment.
The case will be presided by Judge Juan Merchan. Judge Merchan issued an order of silence prohibiting President Trump to speak about witnesses and jurors before the Manhattan trial. Later, the order was expanded to prohibit President Trump from commenting about Judge Merchan’s relatives.
