The San Francisco Chronicle reports that thieves broke into his car and snatched his belongings from a downtown parking garage. Schiff continued to the event in shirt sleeves and a hiking vest, according to the Chronicle, with others dressed in suits.
Schiff thanked Joe Cotchett for backing his campaign to succeed Dianne Feinstein and represent California in the U.S. Senate at the dinner.
” I guess it’s’ Welcome to San Francisco,'” joked Cotchett’s press agent Lee Houskeeper, who was at the dinner at Ristorante Rocca, located in Burlingame.
During his own remarks, Schiff was apparently unbothered by the theft.
” Yes, they took my bags”, the California representative said, per the Chronicle. ” But I’m here to thank Joe”.

Schiff was the most dressed-down diner at his table, according to a photo from the restaurant that was obtained by the publication.
While wearing a long-sleeved shirt underneath a hiking vest, the lawmaker was spotted standing up and making remarks.
But despite the car burglary and subsequent wardrobe emergency, Cotchett said Schiff did n’t seem bothered.
” Adam truly showed himself now”, Cotchett told the Chronicle. ” He’ll be a great senator — he’s going to change the Senate immensely”.
