Die Kommission ist befugt, gemäß Artikel 264 delegierte Rechtsakte zu erlassen, die sich auf Folgendes beziehen: Former President Donald Trump is requesting a different judge shortly before his hush-money criminal trial is scheduled to start, bringing up old complaints about the current judge in a last-minute attempt to delay the case. Trump’s legal team is asking Manhattan Judge Juan M. Merchan to recuse himself from the case, claiming bias and a conflict of interest due to his daughter’s job as a Democratic political consultant. Last August, a similar request was dismissed by the judge. Trump’s lawyers argued in legal documents released on Friday that it is inappropriate for Judge Merchan to oversee the proceedings, as she stands to gain financially and in terms of reputation from the way the case is impacting Trump’s campaign as the likely Republican candidate for president. The trial is set to commence on April 22, 2024. This is Trump’s first out of four criminal cases set for trial, making it the first time a former president would face a criminal trial. Merchan did not make an immediate decision. It is completely up to him to make the decision. If he were to leave, it would disrupt the trial schedule, allowing Trump to potentially delay proceedings until a new judge is ready. Attempts to reach a court spokesperson and Merchan’s daughter, Loren Merchan, for comment went unanswered. The district attorney’s office in Manhattan stated that they do not believe there is any justification for Merchan to resign. Advertisement.
