A jury earlier this year found Navarrete never guilty of one count of child molestation and sexual conduct with a slight, but found him guilty of another charge of sexual conduct with a slight.
In October of that year, a mistrial was decided because the jurors at the time had disagreements regarding the charges brought against Navarrete. The previous Democrat politician was detained in 2019 and charged with seven child sex crimes in 2021.
According to court records at the time, Navarrete biologically touched the victim numerous times over a dozen years. In a phone call that the police had recorded ,Navarrete officially expressed regret to the victim and offered an apology.
In that call, he reportedly said he “was n’t well” when the abuse happened. He resigned less than a week after his arrest, during which he released a statement saying he “adamantly denied all allegations” and would prove his innocence. Always since, Navarrete denied the allegations.

A third count of trying to commit child molestation was dropped by the prosecution on February 22.
The first-term Democrat from Phoenix was detained in August 2021 following allegations that he had sexual misconduct with a slight in 2019 and had sexual misconduct with a minor.
The boy, who Navarrete accused of touching him badly when he was 12 or 13, was one of the children who the station reported hearing the allegations involved.
Apparently, the physical misconduct persisted up until the boy was 15 years old.
Due to the allegations, Navarrete resigned from his position and was replaced by then-State Rep. Raquel Terán.

In Oct. 2023, a mistrial was declared when the jury at the time was split on the allegations against Navarrete. The former Democratic politician, who was arrested in 2019, was indicted on seven charges of child sex crimes in 2021.
In court documents from the time, it was stated that Navarrete had sexually touched the victim several times over the course of a few decades. Navarrete apologized and regretted his actions to the victim in a recorded phone call by police.
In that call, it was reported that he said he was “not well” at the time of the abuse. He resigned a little more than a week following his arrest. In that time, he released a press release in which he said he “adamantly denies all allegations” and will prove his innocence. Since then, Navarrete has denied the allegations.

A motion filed by the prosecutors on February 22 dismissed a fourth charge, which was of attempting molestation of an infant.
The first-term Democrat in Phoenix was arrested in 2021, after allegations that he had committed sexual misconduct with a child in 2019.
The station reported the allegations were made by a boy who lived with him for several years and accused Navarrete inappropriately touching him when he had been 12 or 13.
The boy was 15 when the sexual abuse allegedly continued.
Raquel Teran, a former State Representative, replaced Navarrete after he resigned due to the allegations.
Navarrete was elected to the Arizona 30th District as a state representative in 2016. He served a term before being elected as a state senator in 2018.
