Former GOP Congressman Ends Independent Bid For House Seat

Santos, who represented New York’s 3rd congressional district, recently launched his independent bid for New York’s 1st congressional district after being expelled from Congress.

Santos, who was elected in 2022 to represent parts of Nassau County and Queens, was the first Republican to be expelled from the chamber on December 1 after a scathing ethics report revealed he used campaign funds for beautiful trips, including X-rated OnlyFans subscriptions, Botox injections, and beautiful trips. He was the only Republican to be expelled from the chamber on December 1.
One of the 105 Republicans who cast ballots for Santos included LaLota.
Santos announced on March 7 that he would challenge LaLota despite storming out of the Capitol and declaring” to hell with this place” as a result of his expulsion after being invited by President Biden to State of the Union.
A Federal Election Commission filing earlier this month revealed that the Santos campaign had not reported any fundraising or spending as of the end of March, which the ex-congressman claimed was done by purpose.

Santos was criticized by lawmakers next year for fabricating his biography on the campaign trail, which he later admitted to telling the Congress.
When the House Ethics Committee released a damning report next year that found compelling evidence that Santos had used campaign funds for his own personal gain, including by spending donations on OnlyFans, Sephora, and other expensive items, lawmakers finally lost patience with him.

“I have decided not to run as an independent candidate for #NY1…… I do not want my run to appear as a revenge against Nick Lalota…… Although Nick and me don’t share the same voting record, and I remain critical about his abysmal track record, I do NOT want to split the ballot and be held responsible for giving the house to the Dems,” Santos stated.
“It’s clear that the rise of antisemitism is a problem in our country, and we cannot afford to give the house to the Dems. They have a large issue with antisemitism within their ranks… Staying on in this race almost guarantees a win for the Dems… I have met with leaders and constituents, and I made the decision to hang up my hat and stop perusing the race THIS YEAR!”

Santos, a former congressman from New York’s 3rd district, launched an independent bid to represent New York 1st district after being expelled.

Santos was elected in 2022 as a representative of parts of Nassau County, Queens. He became the sixth House member, and the first Republican, to be expelled on Dec. 1, following the release of a scathing report that found he had used campaign funds to pay for personal splurges such as X-rated OnlyFans subscribtions, Botox and lavish trips.
LaLota is one of the 105 Republicans who voted for Santos’s ouster.
Santos, who stormed out of the Capitol after his expulsion and declared “to hell with thisplace” as a result, announced on March 7 that he will run against LaLota. He did so after attending President Biden’s State of the Union Address as a guest.
A Federal Election Commission filing from earlier this month revealed that the Santos Campaign had reported no fundraising and spending as of the March end — which the former congressman claimed was intentional.

Santos was condemned by lawmakers from both parties last year for fabricating his biography during the campaign, which he confessed to shortly after he was sworn into Congress.
The patience of the lawmakers with Santos finally ran out last year when the House Ethics Committee published a report that contained a number of serious allegations. Santos had misused campaign funds to his personal benefit and spent donations on OnlyFans.com, Sephora.com, and other luxury items.
Santos’ federal trial for his litany charges is expected to start in September.
