However, Trump’s crisis poses a little older and deeper threat to American democracy, and it is in fact a remnant of a time when the country was at war.

The founders ‘ intention was to place a ticking time bomb at the country’s political system, which might explode in the coming year.
It all dates back to the founding of American democracy, as I explain in my book, when the founding fathers established democratic institutions within a system that placed the power in the hands of an elite, properly-established, light male minority. More than 200 years later, a minority of the population is increasingly vested in the hands of a conservative conventional white minority who is attempting to enshrine and maintain power through a range of anti-democratic means as a result of the series of compromises the founders made.
