This Easter, “Egg Math” Is the Only Form of TikTok Math I’ll Endorse

Happy Easter! I’m not an especially religious adult and I don’t have kids, so this Sunday I agreed to do weekend blogging duty. This was a mistake. It’s been a very quiet news day. While my editor and myself wait for newsworthy events to occur, and many of your paint eggs, we will be hunting.

[[{“value”:”Content Easter! I signed up for weekend blogging duty this Sunday because I’m not a specially spiritual adult and I have no children. That was a mistake. Thus far, it’s been an exceptionally quiet news day. Please allow me to tell you about Egg Math while my editor and I wait for something that is newsworthy to happen, as many of you do. You may also paint eggs, hunt for eggs, or often interact with this delectable protein source.
Egg Math is a popular online trend that started spreading late last year, and I have n’t been able to stop thinking about it. As TikToker @vancouver. According to a now-popular video made by dieticians, “Egg Math” means that the number of eggs someone can eat before getting grossed out depends on the shape of the egg. Therefore, you might be able to eat a three-egg omelet, but not three whole hard-boiled or three cooked eggs. Grilled goods, according to Egg Math, count as zero eggs. You may have as many as you like. Also, in part two of the series, they explain that deviled eggs even have no limit. It’s genius. The idea seems to have struck a chord, across the two videos, @vancouver. more than a million people liked dieticians.

I hope this serves the appropriate egg audience, using the hashtags eggmath, girlmath, and eggs.

But Egg Math is not completely random. For those of you never on TikTok, Egg Math is something of a spin- out of a widespread and, in my opinion, infuriating cousin:” Girl Math”.
Girl Math, according to TikTok, generally applies to shopping, clothing, personal hygiene, makeup, Starbucks, and other characteristically “female” activities. As one TikTok user explained in a video that’s amassed more than 2.5 million likes, with Girl Math, if something is bought with cash, it’s completely. ” It’s not in my bank account, but I never got to see that money go over”, she explains. A similar logic ( or lack thereof ) applies to items returned to the store—that’s free money. Vacations that are paid for much plenty in advance are “free.” Items that cost$ 24 are actually just$ 20, according to Girl Math, store credit is “free shopping”, and if your Starbucks app is loaded with money on Monday, then a latte paid for in- app on Tuesday is “free”.
There are a number of reasons Girl Math infuriates me, including the fact that I enjoy shopping, apply makeup regularly, and have been known to indulge in some pumpkin spice latte. It reinforces the myth that women are less economically successful than men, in the first place. ( A belief, that, for much of this nation’s history, prevented women from being able to own property or take out credit cards on our own. ) Not many of TikTok’s Girl Mathletes are making economically shrewd decisions. Second, it’s infantilizing ( Why are we still calling grown women “girls”? ) and it suggests that women’s activities are restricted to…buying stuff. I’m a woman who likes science, lifting weights, and reading. Do those activities hardly include girls?
Egg Math was n’t a lone offshoot. After Girl Math came all sorts of “maths”, including Boy Math ( which applies to drinking, sports, cars, etc. ), Cat Math, Dog Math, Nurse Math, Teacher Math—the list goes on. Some of these are certainly interesting, if basic ( As one user posted,” Boy math is them wanting a prenup &amp, they make 45k”. ), and some do n’t have much to do with math at all. ( According to Dog Math,” If the doorbell rings, that means the house is on fire”. ) Which leads me to believe that Egg Math is the single TikTok math that truly teaches math.
Yeah, that’s my Easter Sunday rant. Enjoy those eggs. And for the love of Sephora, please no more Girl Math.”}]] Content Easter!
