Video footage shows Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel being violently attacked as he delivers his sermon at Wakeley’s Christ The Good Shepherd Church, near Sydney, Australia.
The stabbing attack reportedly resulted in injuries to several people.
It’s not clear what the perpetrator used to assault the victim.
During the attack, Emmanuel fell on the floor and the congregants rushed him to help.

Police arrested a 15-year-old boy after a prominent Bishop and three other men allegedly were stabbed on Monday night during a service in an Assyrian Church.
A video posted on social media shows Christian leader Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel allegedly attacked at Wakeley’s Christ The Good Shepherd Church as he delivered his sermon around 7.10pm on Monday.
After the attack, around 2000 people were enraged and swarmed the area near the church. Riots broke out and the police struggled to maintain order.
NCA Newswire understands that crowds have also gathered at Liverpool Hospital, after at least some injured churchgoers were treated there.
As a result, it is believed that the hospital has been placed on lockdown.
Police said that the boy arrested was well-known to them and did not attend church regularly.
The public was urged to avoid this area after he was taken to an “undisclosed” location.
Police officers continued to “work on restoring the order”.

The police urged residents to stay away from the area, while Chris Minns, the state premier, also asked the community to remain calm.
In a message to X, he wrote: “Disturbing scene tonight in Wakeley,” he said. “My thoughts and my prayers are with the first responders and victims who are working to keep everyone safe.”
It is important that the community remains calm and continues to listen and follow the directions of Police and Emergency Services.
The injured people were treated by paramedics from NSW ambulance.
NSW Ambulance reported that they were called by the church at 7.15pm, and sent paramedics to the scene.
A spokesman stated that they treated a man aged 50 for multiple cuts, before taking him to Liverpool Hospital.
A man in his 30s was treated for lacerations at the hospital.
A man in the 20s was treated at the scene for a cut on his hand, and a man aged 60 treated for a laceration on his arm.
