From the Associated Press:
For years, Australia has called on the U. S. to drop its prosecution against Assange, an American citizen who has fought U. S. extradition efforts from prison in the U. K. Asked about the request on Wednesday, as he hosted Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for an established visit, Biden said,” We’re considering it”.
Assange has been charged with 17 espionage counts and one count of computer misuse because his website published a trove of secret U.S. documents nearly 15 years ago. According to American prosecutors, Assange, 52, encouraged and assisted Chelsea Manning, a U.S. Army intelligence analyst, to steal political cables and defense files that WikiLeaks published, putting lives in danger.
Australia contends that there is a disconnect between Manning and the United States ‘ approach to Assange. Next- U. S. President Barack Obama commuted Manning’s 35- year sentence to seven years, which allowed her release in 2017.

Assange’s extradition to the United States was upheld next month by the High Court in London.
If the Biden administration is unable to provide the court with” sufficient assurances,” two judges decided Assange could bring his case for an appeal hearing.

Julian Assange has been imprisoned for five years in the UK’s safest prison for publishing, having been detained there for nearly 14 years. UN experts have warned him that he faces torture and will not survive julian, who revealed that his wife and two young children are still living together. Following the release of WikiLeaks Vault 7, the CIA made it known in court late that they had plans to kill the publisher. The US refused to assure UK judges that Assange wo n’t be executed if he’s extradited”, WikiLeaks wrote.
” All major free speech, press and human rights organizations have called for the publishers release including Amnesty, Reporters Without Borders, ACLU, PEN, HRW, The International Federation of Journalists, NUJ, The New York Times, The Guardian, El Pais, Le Monde, Der Spiegel, as well as Heads of State and politicians from around the world”, WikiLeaks added.

BBC reports:
Following London’s High Court’s ruling in March, the extradition was put on hold because it was required that the United States give assurances that he would not face the death penalty.
At the end of May, the High Court will evaluate any responses from the US authorities.
Mr Assange’s wife Stella said she was likewise encouraged by Mr Biden’s comments.
She stated on BBC Radio 4’s Today program,” It appears that things could be heading in the right direction,” adding that she thought the president should have dropped the case against her husband on the first day of his presidency.
” Lots of people around the world… have been saying for years that this case should be dropped, that it is a danger to press freedom”.
When asked about her husband’s health, Stella Assange said he was “extremely unwell”.
” He’s stressed, obviously, because he could be extradited to the US to face 175 years in prison”.”}]] [[{“value”:”

The Associated Press:
Since years, Australia has asked the U.S. not to prosecute Assange, a citizen of Australia who has fought U.S. efforts for extradition from prison in the U.K. Biden responded, “We are considering it,” when asked about the request during a visit to Japan by Prime Minister Fumio Kishhida on Wednesday.
Assange was indicted for 17 espionage counts and one computer misuse charge over the publication of classified U.S. government documents on his website almost 15 years ago. American prosecutors claim that Assange, 52 years old, encouraged and helped U.S. Army Intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning steal diplomatic cable and military files published by WikiLeaks, putting lives in danger.

Last month, Assange’s extradition to the United States was upheld by the High Court of London.
Two judges ruled that Assange could appeal his case if the Biden Administration cannot provide “satisfactory assurances” to the court.
Julian Assange avoids extradition to United States for how long?

“Thursday, April 11, marks five years that Julian Assange has been in the UK’s safest prison for publishing. He’s been in the UK for almost 14 years. For championing public’s rights to know, he faces 175 years in prison if extradited back to the US. UN experts have warned him he’s at risk of torture, and won’t survive. Assange who exposed war crimes and human right violations is still separated from his family. In court, it was revealed that the CIA had planned to assassinate Assange following the release of WikiLeaks vault 7. The US refused assurances to UK judges that Assange would not be executed if extradited,” WikiLeaks stated.
WikiLeaks said that “all major human rights, press, and free speech organizations, including Amnesty International, Reporters Without Borders and The International Federation of Journalists (NUJ), as well as Heads of state and politicians from all over the world, have called for this release.”
