From the Associated Press:
In the final hours of daylight, solid south winds carried the dust from the Sahara Desert, giving the air of the Greek capital a Martian-like filter.
On Wednesday, the weather is expected to start to clear with the dust and wind shifting. On Tuesday, the daily high in parts of the southern island of Crete topped 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit ), more than 20 degrees C higher than what was registered in much of northern Greece.
Snowfall first wildfires have been a result of the country’s south’s recent strong southerly winds.
A total of 25 wildfires reportedly broke out in the country over the past 24 hours, according to the fire service on Tuesday night. On suspicion of starting a brush fire on Monday, three people were detained on the Aegean Sea resort island of Paros, it added. No major damage or injuries were reported, and the fire was rapidly contained.

The Guardian reports:
Sahara dust clouds had now smothered parts of southern France and Switzerland in Greece in later March and early April.
Authorities warned that the dust concentrations can lower sunlight and visibility while causing higher excellent pollution particles to be present, which could put people at risk for developing core health issues.
Every year, the Sahara releases 60 to 200 million tons of mineral dust. The smallest particle can travel thousands of kilometers, possibly reaching all of Europe, while the largest particles return quickly to earth.
The skies would start to distinct on Wednesday, according to the Greek weather service.
The Greek skies frighteningly resemble the day before, when New York City appeared to be a location for an apocalyptic film.
The blame for NYC’s orange skies was given to wildfires in Canada.
The Midwest and East Coast of the United States have been contaminated by smoke from wildfires in Canada. In New York City, the skyline was obscured by peach smoke, darkening the midday skies.

The Associated Press:
Strong winds from the south carried dust from the Sahara Desert. This gave the atmosphere of Athens a Martian-like tint in the final hours of daylight.
On Wednesday, temperatures will drop and the skies will clear as the winds shift. Tuesday, the daily maximum in some parts of southern Crete reached 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit), which is more than 20 degrees C above the average temperature in northern Greece.
Strong southerly winds have also caused unseasonal early fires in the south of the country.
The fire service reported Tuesday evening that 25 wildfires had broken out in the country over the past 24 hour. The fire service said that three people were arrested in Paros, a resort island in the Aegean sea, on suspicion of accidentally igniting a scrub fire on Monday. The fire was quickly put out and no injuries or significant damage were reported.

The Guardian reports
In late March and earlyApril, Greece was already smothered by Sahara dust clouds that also covered parts of Switzerland and southern France.
Authorities warned that dust concentrations could reduce sunlight and visibility, while increasing fine pollution particle concentrations. This can pose health risks to people with underlying conditions.
The Sahara releases between 60 and 200m tonnes mineral dust per year. The largest particles fall quickly to the earth, but the smallest particles can travel thousands of kilometers and potentially reach all of Europe.
The Greek weather service predicted that the skies will begin to clear by Wednesday.
The Greek skies are eerily similar to the day when New York City was transformed into the setting of a post-apocalyptic film last year.
The blame for NYC’s orange sky was placed on Canadian wildfires.

Smoke from wildfires in Canada has drifted to the US East Coast, Midwest and South. Smoke from Canadian wildfires has darkened the midday sky in New York City.
