The specific demands of students vary, but many are calling for their colleges to label the Israeli offensive as a genocide against Palestinians, be more transparent about their financial and academic connections to Israel, and cut ties with companies associated with the country. These actions are being promoted through advertisements. Tlaib stated that they will continue to support these students until the genocide ends and there is a prompt and lasting ceasefire that involves the complete removal of Israeli troops from Gaza. At certain universities like Northwestern University, Brown University, and the University of Minnesota, protestors have managed to come to agreements with their schools. However, university officials have opposed several of these protests and have requested for the encampments to be removed, resulting in police intervention and an increase in violent disturbances. According to the Associated Press, 33 students were detained by police during the GWU protest and pepper spray was used on demonstrators attempting to breach police barriers.
