Per NBC News: Greene, who had threatened for weeks to force the issue, dragged her feet as it became clear she did n’t have enough support to remove Johnson. Some Democrats had made it clear they would vote for Johnson, especially after he helped thwart a government shutdown, pushed through the renewal of a crucial intelligence surveillance spy tool, and passed billions of dollars in international aid for Ukraine after months of delays, in contrast to last year’s successful vote to remove previous Californian speaker Kevin McCarthy, R. Greene announced that she was making a wealthy motion to resign from the speaker’s chair during the final vote series of the week. She was soon booed by her coworkers. ” It’s a new paradigm in Congress. Nancy Pelosi, and most republicans voted to keep Uniparty Speaker Mike Johnson. It’s regrettable. We’re better than that. “We need to move beyond it,” he said. Greene, who threatened to force the issue for weeks, dragged on as it became apparent that she didn’t have sufficient support to remove Johnson. Many Democrats, unlike last year when they successfully voted to remove former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), had made it clear that they would vote to keep Johnson. This was especially true after Johnson helped to stave off a shutdown of the government, renewed a spy tool for intelligence surveillance and passed billions in foreign aid to Ukraine after months of delay. Greene announced on the floor that she would be filing a privileged vote to vacate the Speaker’s Chair during the last series of votes for the week. Her colleagues immediately booed Greene. “It’s the beginning of a new paradigm for Congress. Nancy Pelosi and the majority of republicans voted in favor of keeping Uniparty Speaker Mike Johnson. Thomas Massie, (@RepThomasMassie), May 8, 2024 USA Today reports: The attempt by the Republican Party and its presumptive presidential candidate Donald Trump to oust him failed. Trump said that Mike Johnson was a good man and is trying hard. The final vote count showed that 32 Democrats and 11 Republicans were against the motion. Seven members, all Democrats voted present, and 21 members did NOT vote. Democrats who voted to advance Greene’s motion cited concerns about saving the Speaker due to his role in the efforts to reverse the 2020 election. Democratic lawmakers also attacked Johnson’s conservative credentials, such as his antiabortion views.
