The organization praised the program’s intention to “modernize some noncitizens ‘ documentation,” but stressed that it would not constitute a formal form of federal ID.

ICE claims that ID cards are necessary because paper documents are insecure, ineffective, and can eventually get lost or deteriorate.
A ICE spokesman told Fox News that switching to a secure card would save the agency millions of dollars, complimentary up resources, and help DHS officials get information fast while reducing the agency’s FOIA backlog.
The modern modernization, according to” the secure card and connected portal,” will continue to be accessible to temporarily released noncitizens.
