The lawsuit claims that Heartbeat International and other defendants are advocating for pregnant individuals to skip the second drug and instead take progesterone to “reverse” the abortion process. However, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists stated that there is no scientific evidence to support this procedure. ACOG’s investigation found that multiple studies referenced by the organizations used faulty data and imprecise methods. One study from 2024, which aimed to assess the procedure, was stopped prematurely because of safety issues. Three patients had severe bleeding and had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. Last September, Attorney General Rob Bonta of California (a Democrat) filed a lawsuit against Heartbeat International that was similar in nature.
