Port of San Diego declares emergency over invasive seaweed in southern bay

The Port of San Diego declared a local disaster due to an invasive species of algae in South San Diego Bay. The algae, Caulerpa Prolifera, first appeared in the bay on September 20, 2023. Additional patches have since appeared in and around the Coronado Cays.

 Due to the spread of an aggressive algae species in South San Diego Bay, the Port of San Diego has declared a native emergency.
