[[{“value”:”A recent study suggests that expectant women who are exposed to high levels of fluoride are more likely to have children with behavioral issues.
According to the New York Post, the research suggested children in the womb exposed to higher amounts of fluoride “were more possible to experience temper tantrums, headaches, stomachaches, anxiety and symptoms linked to autism”.

From the New York Post:
Older study author Tracy Bastain, an associate professor of clinical population and public health sciences at the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine, stated that exposure to fluoride during pregnancy does not mean that a child will have greater neurodevelopmental issues.
More studies are needed to establish a direct link, she explained, but we found an association between higher prenatal exposure and more neurodevelopmental problems at age 3.
The MADRES Center for Environmental Health Disparities at USC provided the study’s data.
MADRES follows mostly Hispanic Los Angeles families from conception to childhood.
Researchers compared the fluoride exposure to urine samples taken from 229 expectant mothers during their second trimester.

The study authors said children whose mothers had higher levels of fluoride were 83 % more likely to show “internalizing” behavioral problems.

Per Daily Mail:
What led some women in the study to have higher fluoride levels than others is unknown. Drinking tap water versus filtered water, consuming specific foods, and using some medical products are all possible causes of increased fluoride exposure.
Direct investigator Ashley Malin, an assistant professor in epidemiology at the University of Florida College of Public Health, said their findings suggested there may be a connection between fluoride exposure and foetal brain development.
Although there is no known benefit to the developing foetus from consuming fluoride, she said,” We do know that there is probably a risk to their developing brain.”
According to their mother’s reports,” we found that roughly twice the odds of children scoring in the scientific or unstable clinical range for neurobehavioral problems at age 3 were associated with each 0. 68 milligram per litre increase in fluoride levels in the urine of pregnant women,” according to our study.
She continued, adding that the findings were concerning and hoped they would inspire policymakers to make specific recommendations for fluoride exposure in pregnancy.
Conducting a comprehensive US study on this subject would be critical, but I believe the findings of the most recent studies from Canada and Mexico indicate that this issue is actually concerning.

Daily Mail:
It’s not clear what caused some women to have higher levels of fluoride than others. Fluoride exposure can be increased by drinking tap water instead of filtered water, eating certain foods and using some dental products.
Ashley Malin, assistant professor of epidemiology at the University of Florida College of Public Health and lead investigator, said that their findings indicated a link between fluoride exposure during pregnancy and foetal development.
She said that although there is no benefit to the developing foetus from fluoride, we do know it could be harmful to their developing brain.
According to their mothers’ reports, we found that every 0.68 milligrams per litre increase of fluoride in the urine of pregnant women was associated with a nearly two-fold increase in the odds that children would score in the clinical or borderline range for neurobehavioral issues at age 3.
She said the findings were alarming and hoped that they would inspire policymakers into creating specific recommendations for fluoride in pregnancy.
She said that a national study in the US on this topic is important, but the findings of her current study, as well as recent studies from Canada, and Mexico, suggest there’s a real problem here.
As 100 Percent Frustrated has noted, some local government have taken action to stop fluoridating the water supply due to harmful health risks of fluoride.
