The U.S. Weapons That Are Destroying Gaza

Biden’s pause in sending arms to Israel should be viewed in the context of all the destruction that these weapons have already caused.

In light of the destruction that those weapons have now caused, Bahrain’s pause in sending arms to Israel must be considered. Given the destruction that those weapons have now caused, Bahrain’s pause in supplying arms to Israel must be considered.

Biden’s pause in sending arms to Israel should be viewed in the context of all the destruction that these weapons have already caused.

President Joe Biden announced on May 8 that he had temporarily stopped the delivery of a large quantity of bombs to Israel as they intensified their attack on Rafah. He also warned that more arms shipments could be withheld if Israel proceeded with a full-scale invasion of the southern Gaza city. Israeli officials, including National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, expressed outrage in response to the announcement, with Ben-Gvir tweeting that Hamas supports President Biden. Criticism was also leveled by different Republicans, Democrats who oppose Palestinian causes, and donors who support Israel. House Republicans quickly drafted legislation called the Israel Security Assistance Support Act to prevent the Biden Administration from holding back military aid to Israel. Regrettably, Biden’s action is not in time to save the 35,2046 Palestinians who have already lost their lives in Gaza, largely as a result of American weaponry. Additionally, two days after announcing the suspension, the State Department published a confusing report indicating that although it is possible to determine that American weapons have been utilized by Israeli forces in Gaza in ways that do not align with international humanitarian laws, Israel’s promises concerning humanitarian aid and adherence to international humanitarian laws are seen as trustworthy. With this ridiculous decision, the Biden Administration has essentially allowed itself to continue supplying weapons and enabling Israel’s unethical actions during conflicts. Retired U.S. Colonel Joe Buccino explained to the BBC that Israel has the capability to completely destroy Rafah using the weapons it currently possesses.
