As a juvenile, Carroll was charged with theft and firearm possession offenses in 1988 and 1989, according to court documents. In 1990, as an adult, Carroll was arrested for involvement in the gunpoint kidnapping, robbery and physical assault of two women. Although these counts were gradually dropped, Carroll was accused of three counts of “oral copulation,” which is the practice of coercing a victim into having oral sex. Carroll received a 10-year, 8-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to just two counts of kidnapping. After his release, Carroll— therefore age 25 — offended again in 1998 and was arrested and convicted for the robbery of a jewelry store. That crime activated California’s ‘ Three Strikes and You’re Out’ law, which mandates more penalties for offenders with three major felony convictions. Carroll was given a maximum sentence of 25 years to life and has been a prisoner since. Today, at 51 years old, 6ft 2in tall and about 200lbs, Carroll is actually imposing. Carroll appears in mugshot photos wearing a heavy, black, and grey stumble that she claims to be a trans woman despite not having undergone sex reassignment surgery.
