The suggested revisions for how police manage mass arrests are still being discussed, but currently involve increased supervision at the scene and post-event debriefings to evaluate the effectiveness of actions taken. Police officers have received additional training in de-escalation techniques and some have also been trained to handle civil unrest and riots, as stated by Snelling. The chief emphasized that mass arrests are considered as a final option. “However, we are well aware of the potential consequences of such scenarios, particularly when a large number of individuals are bound to gather in Chicago, leading to a possible increase in acts of destruction and vandalism.”
