Last month, a wealthy conservative donated a significant sum of $208 million to a super PAC in support of Donald Trump, following the former president’s conviction in his hush money trial in Manhattan. Timothy Mellon, a descendant of the Mellon banking family, provided the enormous contribution to Make America Great Again Inc. , recently announced that it will invest $100 million in an extensive advertising campaign across the country in the near future. The initial report from The New York Times revealed that the super PAC has secured approximately $30 million in ad reservations for Georgia and Pennsylvania, crucial swing states in the upcoming election, to be aired around the Fourth of July. According to documents filed with the Federal Election Commission, the donation made up over two-thirds of MAGA Inc.’s funds. The Times observed that the contribution brought in in May could potentially be one of the largest ever made to a political campaign. Mellon, residing in Wyoming, has emerged as a significant Republican contributor in recent times, donating substantial amounts starting in 2018 despite previously being unfamiliar in fundraising circles. Despite the fact that many people have received money from him, they have not actually met him. Reuters characterized him as a rare individual who avoids the public eye. A billboard in Michigan funded by the Democratic National Committee in February showcased Mellon’s backing of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s super PAC. In this election season, he has already donated $100 million, giving $25 million to super PACs backing both Trump and independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. It is uncertain if this recent increase in funding signifies the end of his support for Kennedy.
