In addition, Kennedy has not met CNN’s requirement of achieving 15% support in four national polls, although there is a chance this could change before the debate qualification deadline on Thursday. Kennedy has also filed a complaint accusing CNN of working with President Biden and potential GOP nominee Trump to prevent him from participating in the debate. A CNN representative countered by stating that simply applying for ballot access does not ensure that he will be listed on the ballot in any state. A representative for Kennedy’s campaign disagreed with the results published by the Post. The spokesperson stated in an email that Kennedy is eligible for more electoral votes than both Presidents Trump and Biden as they have not yet been officially nominated by their parties. Candidates from major parties do not have to gather signatures to be listed on the ballot, unlike independent candidates. Kennedy’s campaign disagrees, pointing to a statement from the Federal Election Commission that clarifies the phrase ‘presumptive nominee’ is not mentioned in the FEC’s debate regulations.
