The Republican from South Carolina was gaining popularity in Congress and had recently defeated a primary challenger supported by Trump. She made frequent appearances on television. During that winter, Mace delivered a harsh roast of her colleagues at the annual press club dinner in D.C., wearing a semi-transparent black gown that reached the floor. However, ever since her surprising vote to remove Kevin McCarthy as House speaker in October, Mace has been facing difficulties. She has become involved in a bitter public dispute with the speaker, who is no longer in that position. A lot of Mace’s employees left her and then harshly criticized her in the media. Her former chief of staff considered challenging her in a primary election.
