According to the court documents, Assange was charged with conspiracy to obtain and disclose regional defense information as a result of criminal information, which usually translates into a plea deal. According to a letter from a Justice Department official to U.S. District Judge Ramona Manglona of the Northern Mariana Islands District, Assange would make a plea deal with the Justice Department on Wednesday at 9 a.m. local time ( 7 p.m. ET Tuesday ) and that the Justice Department anticipates Assange’s return to Australia, his country of citizenship, after the proceedings.
One of the largest publications of classified information in British history occurred during President Barack Obama’s second term, leading to U.S. accusations against Assange. The WikiLeaks founder was on his way to enter a plea deal with the U.S. government that will free him and settle the legal case that stretched years and continents over the publication of a trove of classified documents. A plane that is believed to be carrying Julian Assange made its landing in Bangkok on Tuesday.
Chartered flight VJT199 landed after noon at Don Mueang International Airport, north of the Thai capital. According to airport officials, the plane was just in Bangkok for refueling and was scheduled to leave for Saipan, the capital of the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S.commonwealth in the Western Pacific, on Tuesday night native time, where he will appear in court.

A plane believed to carry Julian Assange landed in Bangkok on Tuesday, as the WikiLeaks co-founder was on his way into a plea agreement with the U.S. Government that will release him and resolve the legal dispute that spanned continents and years over the publication of classified documents.
Chartered flight VJT199 arrived after noon at Don Mueang International Airport north of the Thai Capital. The Associated Press reported that the plane had only been in Bangkok to refuel and was scheduled for departure Tuesday evening to Saipan, capital of the Northern Mariana Islands (a U.S. Commonwealth in the Western Pacific), where he would appear in court on Wednesday morning local time.
According to a letter filed by the U.S. Justice Department, he is expected to plead to an Espionage Act accusation of conspiring to obtain and distribute classified national defense information in an unlawful manner.
Assange will return to Australia after his sentencing and plea. Assange refused to travel to the continental U.S., and the court is located close to Australia.
