Per Fox News:
While it has n’t been invoked in over half a century, it’s mandatory for all male U. S. citizens to register for the selective service, also known as the military draft, when they turn 18. Failure to register is punishable by a felony and has a number of legitimate challenges.
The amendment’s supporters claim that it would reduce administrative bureaucracy, help Americans avoid pointless constitutional issues, and reduce the amount of money spent on prosecuting those cases.
It was led by Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, D- Pa., and passed in the House Armed Services Committee’s version of the NDAA in May. The NDAA passed the committee with a convincing 57 to 1 vote.
Houlahan said during the debate last month that the [Selective Service ] agency could use available federal databases to register all of the applicants and help ensure that any upcoming military draft is fair and equitable.
This will also make it possible for us to redistribute resources, in essence, to mobilization and reading readiness more than to education and advertising campaigns geared toward registering people.

The GOP-controlled House likewise contained provisions aimed at delaying abortion and supporting Pentagon DEI initiatives, according to NBC News.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA ) stated in a statement that the NDAA will refocus our military on its main goal of protecting America and its interests around the world, fund the deployment of the National Guard to the southwest border, expedite innovation and shorten the time to acquire new weapons, support our allies, and strengthen our nuclear posture and missile defense programs.
NBC News reports:
It includes a 19.5 % raise for junior enlisted service members as well as higher food and housing allowances.
However, the bill was likewise modified to include a provision that would “prohibit the Secretary of Defense from paying for or reimbursing expenses relating to abortion services” — breaking a policy that the Biden administration put in place in 2022. It is akin to Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R- Alabama’s frequently detested protest from last year that stifled military promotions for months in an unsuccessful attempt to persuade the Pentagon to revoke its policy of paying travel expenses related to abortions.
House Republicans finally added a number of traditional amendments along party lines over the course of the final two days after the bill made it to the House floor, making it controversial, while the NDAA passed out of the Armed Services Committee on an increasingly republican 57- 1 vote. That includes a change that would permanently ban hiring for positions in the Defense Department’s diversity, equity, and inclusion ( DEI ) positions and remove the department’s chief diversity officer position. Additionally, it would forbid the Tricare health care system from performing gender transition surgeries.”}]] [[{“value”:”

Fox News:
Although it hasn’t happened in more than 50 years, it is mandatory for all American men to register for the Selective Service, also known by the name of the military draft, at the age of 18. Failure to register is a felony that comes with a number of legal issues.
Supporters of the proposed amendment claim that it will reduce bureaucratic red-tape and help U.S. residents avoid unnecessary legal issues. It will also save taxpayer dollars on prosecuting these cases.

According to Defense News, Houlahan stated during a debate last month that the [Selective Service] will be able, by using federal databases, to register all the individuals needed and help ensure any future military drafts are fair and equitable.
“This will allow us to rededicate our resources — essentially that means money — to reading readiness and to mobilization, rather than to education and advertising campaigns to register people.”

According to NBC News the GOP-controlled House included provisions that targeted abortion and DEI initiatives within the Pentagon.
In a statement, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-LA, said that the NDAA would refocus the military on its core mission to defend America and its interests around the world, fund the National Guard’s deployment to the Southwest border, accelerate innovation and reduce acquisition timelines for new weapons, support our allies and strengthen our nuclear posture, missile defense programs.
NBC News reports
The package includes a 19.5% increase in pay for junior enlisted members, as well as larger allowances for housing and food.
The bill was amended to include a clause that would “prohibit Secretary of Defense from paying or reimbursing any expenses relating abortion services.” This would undo a policy implemented by the Biden administration in 2022. This is similar to the widely condemned protest last year by Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), who blocked military promotions in a failed attempt to pressure Pentagon to revoke their policy of paying travel costs related to abortions.
The NDAA was passed by the Armed Services Committee with a 57-1 bipartisan vote. However, House Republicans added several conservative amendments to the bill along party lines in the last two days, which made it controversial. The amendments include one that would permanently freeze hiring in the Defense Department for jobs related to diversity, equity and inclusivity (or DEI), and eliminate the position of chief diversity officer. The Tricare health program would also be prohibited from providing gender-transition surgeries.
