Every edition of The Progressive magazine features a single question presented to a diverse panel of knowledgeable individuals, including writers, intellectuals, politicians, artists, and other prominent figures who play a role in influencing public discourse. In the June/July 2024 edition, we posed the question: How can individuals fight against misinformation during the 2024 election period? Ich bin unsicher. Ich verstehe. An engineering professor at the University of Notre Dame who wrote a book about the history of false information online. In today’s digital era, traditional forms of communication continue to exist and are often considered more reliable sources of information in comparison to social media. This is because the information they provide is typically produced by professionals, thoroughly researched, and based on reliable sources. TV, radio, and print media, whose supposed decline has been exaggerated, still provide the public with top-notch reporting. Long-form journalism is usually considered superior because the additional time invested in its production leads to a more meticulous and thoroughly researched final product.
