This interview comes after Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts in a landmark hush money trial in Manhattan. CNN verified the interview with a Trump campaign official and two other sources, as well as an advertisement. According to NBC and CNN, Judge Juan Merchan allowed Trump attorney Todd Blanche to be present at the interview, which is unusual. According to NBC, it is unusual for the interview to take place virtually. Trump, the expected Republican candidate for president, was convicted following a lengthy trial in which prosecutors proved that he attempted to conceal a hush money payment in 2016 related to an affair with Stormy Daniels, an adult film star. Merchan will decide Trump’s sentence on July 11, but it is currently unknown if he will receive probation, jail time, or community service. The date for sentencing is just four days prior to the beginning of the Republican National Convention. Trump has denied the charges that were brought against him by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. This is the first instance in which a felony conviction has been handed down to a president in the United States. The Trump campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, stated that President Trump and his legal team are actively working to combat and overcome the unlawful case brought by the Manhattan DA, according to CNN. Trump is also dealing with three other criminal cases, including mishandling of classified documents, federal election interference, and election interference in Georgia.
