Recalled items included Dove, Nexxus, Suave, Rockaholic, Bed Head, and Tresemmé clean shampoo canisters produced before October 2021. Not for the first time in recent memory that benzene contamination caused a cosmetics recall. In December 2021, Procter &, Gamble recalled plume dry shampoo and conditioner spray products from Pantene, Aussie, and Herbal Essences according to detected benzene. Is benzene harmful? Benzene is a chemical carcinogen. But, context is crucial: People breathe in low levels of the compound every day. ” Products of cigarettes, gasoline, glues, paints, and certain plastics contain benzene”, Reid Maclellan, MD, director of Proactive Dermatology Group and founder and CEO of artificial intelligence health care company Cortina, tells Glamour. And it’s accurate to say that every day there are numerous opportunities to expose oneself to benzene, from car emissions to gasoline used to fill your lawnmower. According to Hans Plugge, a principal who focuses on toxicology at Safer Chemical Analytics LLC, banana smoothies have been found to be contaminated with it as well. Somewhat consistent exposure does no mean benzene is risk- free, yet.
