Zhang Zhijie collapsed and experienced seizures while competing against Kazuma Kawano of Japan at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships on Sunday, according to the Associated Press.
Zhijie was treated on the court and taken care of there by skilled personnel.
He was afterwards transported to the Dr. Sardjito General Hospital in Yogyakarta.
” The conclusion of the examination and treatment of the victim at both hospitals showed the same results, especially that the victim experienced sudden cardiac arrest”, Broto Happy, spokesperson of Badminton Association of Indonesia, told reporters, according to the Associated Press.

Zhang’s family received condolences and support from the Chinese Badminton Association, who he described as a “loved badminton and an excellent athlete of the regional youth badminton team.”
The Chinese association said its team’s leader, coach, doctor, translator and the tournament health staff acted quickly after Zhang appeared to faint on the court.
Zhang Zhijie passed away suddenly while competing in an international competition, according to the statement.” We are greatly distressed. We express our sincere gratitude to Zhang Zhijie’s entire social network for his concern and assistance. We will do our best to provide help to Zhang Zhijie’s family”.

Zhijie was treated by medical personnel on the court before being rushed to a hospital nearby.
