Bases in the United States were upgraded to” Force Protection Charlie,” which applies when intelligence is obtained that indicates a possible terrorist attack or targeted attack on personnel or facilities.
Fox News reports:
The official, who declined to be identified because he was never authorized to speak to the media, did not provide more details about the threat, but confirmed that it was unrelated to the European elections.
The official said all U. S. military bases in Europe have been placed on high alert, hardly a lock- down.
The alert level has been raised to” Force Protection Charlie,” which indicates that the Pentagon has received reliable information showing that some sort of terrorist attack is on the horizon.

The Army garrison issued a communitywide alert on Sunday at U.S. European Command headquarters in Stuttgart, noting that the force protection threat level had been raised to condition” Charlie” until further notice.

Similar directives were sent to another bases in Germany, including the Army’s Rheinland- Pfalz and Ramstein Air Base, which collectively form the largest U. S. military community globally. Baumholder and nearby installations in Romania and Bulgaria are included in the Rheinland-Pfalz garrison alert.
Additionally, another Italian airports implemented enhanced security measures, and Aviano Air Base in Italy raised its condition rating to Charlie.
According to the Army’s website, the Charlie threat level “applies when an incident occurs or intelligence is received indicating some form of criminal action or targeting is likely”
According to the alerts, service members and others should anticipate major delays at gate entry points as a result of increased security.
Questions about the change in force protection were referred to EUCOM by the U.S. Army garrison in Stuttgart.

Similar directives have been sent to other bases, including Rheinland Pfalz Air Base and Ramstein Air Base in Germany. Together, these bases form the largest U.S. Military community overseas. The Rheinland Pfalz garrison warning includes Baumholder, as well as outlying installations located in Romania and Bulgaria.
Aviano Airbase in Italy also raised its condition level to Charlie and other installations in Italy enhanced security measures.
According to the Army website, the Charlie threat level is activated when “intelligence is received or an incident occurs that indicates that a terrorist act or targeting of personnel or facilities may be imminent.”
The alerts warn that increased security will cause significant delays at the gate entry points.
EUCOM was contacted by the U.S. Army garrison at Stuttgart regarding questions about the new force protection.
EUCOM stated in a Sunday statement that it “continually assesses a variety factors that play a role in the safety of the U.S. Military Community abroad.” As part of this effort, we often take additional steps to ensure our service members’ safety.
