ICYMI| For many years, Vladimir Putin has eyed Ukraine and in doing so, he envisioned a day when it would once more belong to Russia. During the Obama administration, Putin saw his chance and grabbed off Crimea and tore it from the hands of Ukraine. But, then came President Trump, and Putin backed off knowing that this was not a man given to bluster and would be willing to fight for what he believed to be right.
Then, Joe Biden became president (Note: I didn’t say elected president) and his hopes were revived. But, it was another conflict that convinced him he could one day regain Ukraine or at least sections of it. Through many presidential terms, the right of Taiwan to exist remained steadfast. Until Biden. When China started making gestures towards uniting Taiwan with China, Biden and his spokespeople would not commit to defending Taiwan. They just said they would arm them to defend themselves just as Biden did in Afghanistan.
How did that work out for them?
In the early morning hours of Thursday, Russia was reportedly in the midst of an invasion into Afghanistan with explosions being reported in Kiev and Kharkiv, near the Russian border. Putin has confirmed the reports allegedly and he claims that Russia has no intention of occupying Ukraine and that Russian forces were demilitarizing Ukraine to keep them from joining NATO. Ukraine’s fate was sealed when Joe Biden and European nations prevented them from joining NATO, which would have given them protection against Russia.
Putin issued the following warning to the United States and NATO:
“A couple of words for those who would be tempted to intervene, Russia will respond immediately and you will have consequences that you never have had before in your history.”
Democrat President Joe Biden responded to Russia launching their full-scale invasion into Ukraine by saying that the world was praying for Ukraine.
“The prayers of the entire world are with the people of Ukraine tonight as they suffer an unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces,” Biden said. “President Putin has chosen a premeditated war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering.”
“Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the United States and its Allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive way,” Biden claimed without providing any details. “The world will hold Russia accountable.”
“I will be monitoring the situation from the White House this evening and will continue to get regular updates from my national security team,” he added. “Tomorrow, I will meet with my G7 counterparts in the morning and then speak to the American people to announce the further consequences the United States and our Allies and partners will impose on Russia for this needless act of aggression against Ukraine and global peace and security. We will also coordinate with our NATO Allies to ensure a strong, united response that deters any aggression against the Alliance. Tonight, Jill and I are praying for the brave and proud people of Ukraine.”
