Kirsters Baish’s Opinion & Speculation| Democratic House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler of New York announced on Thursday evening that “formal impeachment proceedings” against President Donald Trump have been officially made by his committee.
Nadler made an appearance on CNN, saying that people should not get “hung up on the semantics” as his committee is “investigating” the “facts and evidence.”
Nadler stated that he “wasn’t waiting” for Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California, who has been vocal about her stance as not to support impeachment of the President, going on to add that Pelosi has been “very cooperative” with his probe.
According to Politico, “Pelosi has said impeachment is too divisive for the country and has relied on her six investigative committees to uncover new information about Trump’s alleged misconduct, focusing on his finances and his conduct as president. But Nadler said Pelosi ‘has been very cooperative’ in his panel’s efforts, and she personally signed off on recent court filings that effectively put to rest the semantic debate over whether to call the Judiciary Committee’s investigation an impeachment inquiry.”
Fox News reported that “after being pressed as to whether his investigation was considered ‘formal impeachment proceedings,’ Nadler insisted that’s what it is.”
“This is formal impeachment proceedings,” the Democrat said. “We are investigating all the evidence, we’re gathering the evidence and we will at the conclusion of this, hopefully by the end of the year, vote to, vote articles of impeachment to the House floor or we won’t. That’s a decision that we’ll have to make. But that — that’s exactly the process we’re in right now.”
“All right, so when you say formal impeachment proceedings, have you started drafting or preparing articles of impeachment should you need them?” host Erin Burnett questioned.

“There are articles of impeachment introduced a number of months ago and referred to the committee,” Nadler answered. “As the investigation proceeds, we may want to draft our own articles of impeachment that may more closely fit the evidence. We’ll see.”
