Netflix pays Barack and Michelle Obama millions to produce shows.
The latest Obama documentary series “The G Word” is about government.
This Netflix documentary is quite stupid. It’s big-government propaganda.
Obama starts by claiming that Obama does his income taxes himself, and saying, “It is actually easy.”
Although I believe he is joking, it’s not clear.
Obama continues, “I’m amazing at these,” hours later. “You can too if you use the IRS.gov helpful tools.”
This is absurd. It’s so complicated that millions of people pay to get help.
Adam Conover, a silly comedian, hosts Obama’s series. Conover calls himself an “idiot” and he is correct in this.
He enjoys his time with Obama to make lame jokes, and at one point to make sandwiches. He compliments Obama about how well he cuts bread. It’s not funny.
Sometimes, the series covers serious issues like meat inspection. Instead of reporting truthfully, actors perform a skit suggesting meat companies would sell poisoned rats to us without government.
Conover concludes, “Food regulation was unbelievably effective.”
Food is safe today because the slaughterhouses have cleaned up well beyond what the government requires. Companies don’t want a bad reputation.
One company executive explained to me how they routinely disassemble equipment to be swab tested.
Contrary to this, the U.S. Agriculture Department used a crude inspection process called “poke-and-sniff” for meat inspections for over 90 years. They stuck spikes into carcasses, and then smelled them. They used the same spikes and sometimes spread disease. In the 1990s, the government stopped poking and sniffing.
Obama’s series has admitted that government agencies can sometimes mess things up a few times. Conover mocks FEMA. “Not a name you usually hear after the words “did a great job”.
He says FEMA is failing because it is underfunded. However, he continues to claim that FEMA could have saved many lives if they had the resources needed.
That’s ridiculous. FEMA does not fail because it lacks the resources. The U.S. has increased its disaster relief funds by billions. FEMA is a government bureaucracy that fails to deliver disaster relief funds.
The private sector is more efficient.
“The G Word” mocks what it calls “this philosophy that free market should be trusted more than the government.” But Walmart donates much more efficiently to FEMA. They use sophisticated weather tracking to determine where assets are needed. They get things because they lose money if it doesn’t.
Obama’s series denigrates those who doubt government handouts.
Conover claims that “in the wake of civil rights movements, some Americans began to resent it” that the government was providing assistance to black and other brown citizens.
What? We didn’t resent welfare simply because we were racists. We objected because it created an underclass permanent.
Handouts, President Ronald Reagan correctly explained, “discourage work.”
Obama’s documentary shows Reagan as a vicious surgeon who slits valuable government agencies and throws them in a bucket called “free market”.
Reagan didn’t reduce government. During his term, federal spending increased. It always goes up. It always goes up.
It wasn’t. It continues to grow. It’s now bigger than ever.
Conover says that’s okay, as Washington saved us during the COVID shut downs with “stimulus check, small business loans, and corporate tax breaks!”
They don’t mention how much money was stolen or that their spending organization brought 8% inflation.
Obama and his sidekick have been arguing for three hours that the government should do more. Whatever the problem, Obama and his sidekick say that they will always find a solution: more government and more money.
One day, a president might point out that the government doesn’t have enough money and that spending more than what you have is a path to ruin.
