CNN Claims That Political Violence Is a Uniquely Right-Wing Problem

After the attack on Paul Pelosi, CNN Tonight’s Monday edition confidently declared that political violence is a “uniquely Right-Wing problem right now.” Lee Zeldin and Steve Scalise were unavailable for comment.

Mara S. Campo, journalist and podcaster, decided to promote Dan Rather’s “metaphor I love” by hyping him as a “legendary journalist”. He claims that climate change didn’t cause hurricanes, but made them worse. It’s the same for political violence.

Campo isn’t completely wrong. This segment about Bush’s national security guard service is amazing, but not in a good light. She said, “Political violence has existed on all political spectrums, but today’s political climate makes it much worse. It is a uniquely right-wing issue right now.” Given what we’ve seen over the past few years, this is something that we cannot both side with.

Instead of denying that assertion was objectively incorrect, Alisyn Camerota turned her attention to Max Booth, Washington Post’s correspondent, to confirm Campo’s statement, “You wrote a piece about this yesterday for the Washington Post about how — you — it is not both sides actually.” Right-wing rhetoric and violence account for the majority of this.

Boot agreed with his article “Absolutely.” You can see that the threats against members of Congress rose tenfold after Donald Trump was elected. However, he and his followers continue to engage in violent extremist rhetoric.”

Trump is not responsible for the increased threats after Trump’s election. Some of the increased threats have been attributed to leftists who oppose Republicans.

Boot was then even more absurd. “Remember that Trump has called Speaker Pelosi “Crazy Nancy.” for years. Remember that the attacker in San Francisco was asking where Nancy was, which is the exact same question that the mob asked on January 6th, when they invaded Capitol. This is a disease, but it’s not separate from the Republican Party.

It is absurd to claim that Pelosi is the one responsible for the attack by calling her “crazy”. This is a clever way to demand that Republicans stop criticizing Democrats.

Consumer Cellular sponsored this segment.

MARA S. CAMPO : What that tells us now is a lot more about the current political climate. Dan Rather, the legendary journalist has a metaphor I love. He said that climate change didn’t cause hurricanes, but made them worse. It’s the same for political violence. Political violence has existed for as long as there have been political parties. But today’s political climate makes it worse and is a problem that is only being addressed by the right-wing. This is a problem that we cannot both side with, given the events of the last few years.

ALISYN CAMEROTA – Enter Max Boot. Yesterday, you wrote a Washington Post piece about this. It’s not all sides. Right-wing rhetoric and violence make up the majority of this.

MAX BOOT, Yes. You can see that the threats against members of Congress rose tenfold after Donald Trump was elected. However, he and his supporters still engage in violent extremist rhetoric.

Remember that Trump has called Speaker Pelosi “Crazy Nancy”, for years. Remember that the attacker in San Francisco was asking Nancy where she is, which is the exact same question that the mob asked on January 6th, when they invaded Capitol. This is a disease, but it’s not separate from the Republican Party.
