rrible Idea That Has Come to an End // (John Hinderaker).

Rishi Sunak, Britain’s “conservative” government, has opened the door for “climate reparations” to countries in need.

Britain has supported the Cop27 summit on climate change and opened the door for developing countries to pay climate change reparations.

At the meeting in Egypt on Sunday, UK negotiators supported a last-minute agreement to address “loss of damage” payments to countries that have been severely affected by climate-related catastrophes.

Since the beginning of history, climate-related disasters have been around. “Reparations” assume that climate change has made these disasters worse for poor countries. This is false. Science is irrelevant here. We are in the realms of propaganda and politics.

The good news is that the reparations in question are very affordable.

Rishi Sunak will be at Sharm el-Sheikh’s conference on Monday, where he will make a PS65.5 million pledge for green technology in developing nations.

This is peanuts, naturally. It doesn’t seem like it will end there. Once you concede a principle you must live with its implications.

Unfortunately, the Conservatives seem to be completely on the “green train”:

Boris Johnson will also give a speech against the “naysayers”, who threaten Net Zero targets.

“Net zero” is a terrible idea that will greatly degrade the quality life for almost all human beings. These phrases are often used by politicians without any knowledge of the relevant science or the implications of their pledges.

Pakistan is leading the push by developing countries like Bangladesh and Maldives to get compensation from richer nations responsible for most of the world’s pollution.

This is not true. Pollution is most common in poor areas like socialist countries. As experience has shown, prosperity is the best remedy for pollution. Polluting are mainly the poorer regions of the globe. One of the most important environmental problems in the world is the large amount of plastic that flows into our oceans. Nearly all that plastic, or 90% according to my memory, comes from seven rivers in Africa/Asia.

The truth is that poorer countries pollute the Earth to the detriment and benefit of all of us. While it might be sensible to give them money to clean up their pollution, spending dollars on “green” climate projects won’t address actual pollution and will only make matters worse.
