The individual was denied entry to the jail. After the article was published, a spokesperson stated that the person was turned down due to lack of government credentials. However, they would likely have been denied entry to jail if they had provided any credential if they were involved in civil immigration enforcement. Last week, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that DePape had entered the U.S. legally from Mexico on a visitors visa issued in 2008. He had entered Canada on a B-2 visa which allows Canadian visitors to stay up to six months. The visa was then allegedly extended to him.
