Hundreds Of Harvard Faculty Defend President After Backlash Over Antisemitism Comments

The Harvard Crimson reported that on Sunday, the Board of Overseers and the Corporation – Harvard’s premier governing body- got together. On Tuesday, Gay had the opportunity to be present at a congressional hearing concerning campus antisemitism with Elizabeth Magill, President of the University of Pennsylvania, and Sally Kornbluth, President of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. John Ellegood, the president became exceedingly angry.

The presidents and Rep. John Ellegood had a passionate dispute, leading to the presidents becoming highly agitated. Elise Stefanik, who is New York’s Republican, inquired if declarations for Jews to be exterminated would breach their colleges’ regulations. Gay responded that it ‘depends on the scenario’ if these utterances would go against university regulations. Once something reaches the level of bullying, harassing, and intimidating, it is considered unacceptable behavior. We will take action when the situation calls for it. She declared that she had aimed to address hate while guaranteeing the right to free speech.
