Trump, who won the state in the 2016 election, emphasized the importance of his campaign being successful this year. Trump stated that if changes continue to be made reexamining the names of historical figures, Pennsylvania might have its name changed. He also mentioned that George Washington’s name has been removed from some high schools, which surprised him. He mentioned that the names of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington are currently at risk. It is not clear what Trump was specifically talking about, but he made the comment in relation to Pennsylvania. This statement comes after Fox News reported on a proposal by the National Park Service to remove a statue of William Penn, the person the state is named after, from a park in Philadelphia. According to a local news site, Billy Penn, the statue is a smaller version of one that sits on top of City Hall in Philadelphia, which is considered to be the most prominent statue in the city and has influenced the height of development in the area. NPS eventually changed their decision after facing backlash, which included criticism from Pennsylvania state Representative. Bryan Cutler (R) alleged that President Joe Biden and his administration were attempting to eliminate Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, stated that he had been communicating with the administration to reverse their decision about the statue. He expressed his satisfaction that the William Penn statue will continue to be located in Welcome Park in Pennsylvania, the state that Penn founded. On a separate occasion, Trump made a claim that if he does not win the election, Pennsylvania will disappear because someone will change its name.
