Democrat Wins Special Election To Fill Vacated Congressional Seat

[[{“value”:”Tom Suozzi, a previous Democrat representative, will run for re-election to Congress after defeating Mazi Pilip in the special election in New York to take the place of Republican Rep. George Santos.
Suozzi’s victory reduces the now slim House majority of the GOP.
Republicans are facing a 219 to 213 majority as Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi takes over George Santos ‘ former seat. Three seats are already available, and two Republicans and one Democrat have left them open. According to CNN, the new speaker can simply afford to lose two votes on any issue.
Republicans can lose up to two votes and also pass bills if all lawmakers are present, despite having one more vote than a typical majority, according to the outlet.
If Republicans had n’t assisted in Santos ‘ removal, there would not have been a special election for the third congressional district in New York.
Chuck Callesto remarked,” Tom Suozzi wins the special election for New York’s 3rd congressional district, FLIPS SEAT blue… Republicans HELPED oust a friend Republican so that A DEM could fill the seat.

According to NBC News:
According to a source with knowledge of the Democrat’s viewpoint, he might try to be sworn into Congress as quick as Thursday. If no, he might have to wait until the end of the month, when President’s Day is observed during a lengthy recess in the House.
Suozzi thanked a long list of supporters and helpers at his victory party on Tuesday night and discussed some of the challenges he faced during the tense competition.
We won, he declared to applause, “despite all the lies about Tom Suozzi and the Squad, about him being the godfather of the migrant crisis, and about” Sacournia Suazzi,” despite the dishonest tactics and renown Nassau County Republican machine.
Suozzi was immediately cut off by protesters who claimed he supported “genocide” in Gaza. While holding what appeared to be a Arab flag, one of them entered the stage to yell down Suozzi, but he was taken off.
A winter storm that engulfed the New York City area on Tuesday may have aided Suozzi as Democrats gained an earlier advantage in early voting. However, his victory even coincided with some built-in advantages in name ID and fundraising as the district’s former congressman and as Democrats outspent Republicans on the airwaves.
Maybe she was still a Democrat, but Republicans just do n’t learn. I have a nearly 99 % Endorsement Success Rate in Primaries, and I did very well in the General Elections, but I just watched Mazi Melesa Pilip run in an election where she did n’t support me and tried to” straddle the fence,” when she could have easily WON if she had known anything about American modern politics, Donald Trump remarked.
The majority of the Democratic party, MAGA, stayed at home, and it always will unless it is treated with the respect it deserves. I stayed out of the race because I wanted to be loved. Provide US A REAL NOVEMBER CANDIDATE IN THE DISTRICT. I am aware that Suozzi can be readily beat.
Pilip is a registered Democrat, claims analytical journalist Laura Loomer.

According to CNN:
The stakes in the House and the electorate’s makeup, which is generally comparable to suburban swing districts in national battleground states, meant that this race would usually have national significance.
Democrats, however, would be smart to keep in mind that Suozzi was a singular—and singularly talented—candidate with strong ties to Nassau County, where the majority of voters live. He was a former mayor who won the county’s leading position in 2002, making him the second Democrat elected to it in more than three decades. He returned to Congress after losing his bid for a second term and spending some time apart. He won the seat three times, including Santos ‘ defeat in 2020, before leaving in 2022 for an unsuccessful presidential bid.
Simply put, Suozzi had a track record, and despite all of the advertisements he ran against him, voters in the district recognized him as the average who defends labor and will vehemently push for the reinstatement of SALT, the state and local tax deduction that nearly everyone on Long Island wants again after Republicans eliminated it as part of their 2017 tax cuts.
Additionally, it is unclear exactly how the district-wide vote went. Suozzi seems to have outperformed his expectations in Queens, a varied New York City borough that is not part of the city’s suburbs. Despite this, the town may have benefited him just as much as the nation. Democrat Rep. Grace Meng, an Eastern American voter from the area’s 6th congressional district, spoke above and beyond for Suozzi.
Pilip, on the other hand, entered and exited the race as sibling unknowns. She was a county legislator who did n’t appear in public very often, only attended some notable events outside the district, and appeared unsure of how to portray Trump.”}]] [[{“value”:”

Tom Suozzi, a former Democrat Rep., will return to Congress following his victory over Mazi Pilip at the New York Special Election to fill the vacated Republican Rep. George Santos’ seat.
Suozzi’s win cuts into the GOP House majority, which is already very thin.
“With Democratic Rep. elect Tom Suozzi flipping the former Rep. George Santos seat, Republicans have a 219 to 213 tight majority. Currently, there are three vacant seats. Two Republicans and one Democrat have left them open. This means that the new speaker cannot afford to lose more than two votes on any given measure,” CNN wrote.
The outlet noted that “even though Republicans have a majority of one vote, they can still lose up to two votes if all legislators are present.”
Santos would not have been ousted from the 3rd district of New York by Republicans.
Chuck Callesto said, “Tom Suozzi won the special election in New York’s third congressional district. FLIPS SEAT BLUE… Republicans HELPED to oust a Republican so that a DEM can fill the seat.”

NBC News reports
According to a source familiar with his thinking, the Democrat could seek to be sworn in as soon as Thursday. If not, the Democrat may have to wait until after the House’s extended recess on President’s Day at the end of the month.
At his victory celebration on Tuesday night, Suozzi thanked many of his supporters and aides. He also recalled some of the harsh criticisms he received during the long and hard-fought campaign.
“Despite all the lies, about Tom Suozzi’s Squad, about Tom Suozzi as the godfather of migrant crisis and about ‘Sanctuary Suozzi’, despite dirty tricks, despite Nassau County Republican Machine: We won,” said he to applause.
Suozzi was interrupted in his speech by protesters accusing him of supporting the “genocide” that is taking place in Gaza. One of the protesters walked up to Suozzi and shouted down his words while holding a Palestinian flag. He was then removed.
Suozzi’s victory may have been aided by the winter storm that ravaged New York City on Tuesday, when Democrats gained an early lead in early voting. His victory was also aided by the fact that he is a former congressman of the district and has a better name recognition and fundraising than Republicans.
“Republicans don’t seem to learn anything, but perhaps she was still a Democrat?” Donald Trump said, “I have a very high endorsement success rate in primaries and in general elections. But I just watched this very stupid woman, Mazi melesa pilip, running a race in which she didn’t endorse and tried to “straddle the fence,” when she could have easily won if she knew anything about MODERN-DAY politics in America.”
“MAGA – which is the majority of the Republikan Party – stayed home – and it always will, unless it is treated with respect that it deserves. I STAYED OUT THE RACE, “I WANT TO GET LOVED!” GIVE US A REAL CANIDATE IN THE DISTRICT FOR NOVEMBER. “SUOZZI I KNOW HIM WELL. CAN BE EASILY BEATEN!”

According to investigative reporter Laura Loomer Pilip is a Democrat.

CNN:
This race was always going be of national significance. Both because of the stakes at the House and because the electorate is similar to suburban swing districts found in presidential battleground state.
Democrats would do well to remember Suozzi as a unique and talented candidate who had deep ties in Nassau County where the majority of voters reside. He was the first Democrat to be elected to the county’s highest office in over 30 years when he took it in 2002. After losing his bid to win a third term, he took some time off and returned to the political scene. He won the seat three times including a victory over Santos in 2010.
Suozzi was a man with a track record. Despite the negative ads, voters in his district knew him as a moderate, who is friendly to labor, and who will aggressively fight for the return of SALT (state and local tax deduction), which Republicans eliminated from their 2017 tax cut.
It remains to be seen exactly how the district-wide votes were broken down. Suozzi seems to have exceeded expectations in Queens, a diverse borough within New York City that is not a suburban area. This could mean the town has helped him just as much as the nation. Suozzi was helped by the Asian American voters and Democratic Rep. Grace Meng of the 6th congressional district in the neighboring area.
Pilip was, on the contrary, a relative unknowledgeable going into the race, and a relative unknowledgeable coming out of it. She was a county legislator who made very few public appearances. She held a few notable events outside of the district and seemed unsure about how to position herself with respect to Trump.
