CBS News reports:
The incident occurred around 1 p. m. on Saturday, March 23, when pilots of Southwest Flight 147 aborted their second approach because of bad weather. An air traffic controller is heard telling the Boeing 737’s pilots to “go around” and “go up,” as they approach their next landing attempt in a hurry.
” Go around! Go near”! Fly runway heading, climb and maintain 2, 000. Climb and maintain 2, 000.2, 000,” the air traffic controller said, according to a feed from liveatc. net.
The plane appeared to have veered off the runway and appeared to have veered to the south. Initial flight tracking data from Flightradar24 put the airliner at an altitude of 300 feet when it began to climb. The FAA stated that it is looking into whether the off-course airliner flew over the 233-foot towering air traffic control tower.
Flightradar24’s flight tracker map put the plane over the terminal building, never the runway. According to Flightradar24’s estimated track, it appears the plane flew over the parking garage directly next to the air traffic control tower.
The pilots were informed a few minutes afterwards that the same controller’s plane, which was not at all aligned with the runway. It was like west of last. He was hardly gonna land on the runway.”

Per FOX Business:
Southwest told FOX Business that the flight had encountered” turbulence and reduced visibility “at the airport.
The flight diverted and landed in Baltimore.
In a statement, the FAA said it was looking into the incident and would check whether it had flown over the LaGuardia tower.
Differently, the airline said it is” reviewing the event as part of our safety systems.”
According to the San Francisco International Airport, an aircraft that is arriving aborts its landing procedure and then resumes its flight.
The pilot should turn around and take the situation deeper, according to the FAA airplane flying handbook, “if there is a doubt over the landing surface.”
A Newark-bound United Airlines flight was diverted to New York Stewart International Airport next week after experiencing “extreme turbulence” and high winds.

CBS News:
Around 1 p.m., on Saturday, 23 March, the pilots of Southwest Flight 147 cancelled their first approach due to bad weather. On final approach for their second landing attempt, a controller can be heard telling the Boeing 737 pilots to “go around” by climbing to 2,000 feet.
“Go around! Fly runway heading and climb to 2,000. Climb and maintain 2000. According to a liveatc.net feed, the air traffic controller stated “2,000”.
The plane was not lining up with the runway and had drifted eastward. Flightradar24’s preliminary flight tracking data indicated that the airliner was at 300 feet altitude when it began climbing. The FAA is investigating whether the off-course aircraft flew over a 233-foot-tall air traffic control tower.
Flightradar24’s map of flight tracking shows the plane flying over the terminal, not the runway. Flightradar24’s approximate tracking suggests that the plane flew directly over the air traffic tower and the parking garage.
The same controller informed the pilots that their plane “was not aligned at all with the runway” a few moments later. It was east of final. He wasn’t gonna land on runway.”

Per FOX Business
Southwest told FOX Business the flight was affected by “turbulence” and “low visibility” in the airport.
The flight diverted to Baltimore.
In a statement, the FAA told FOX Business that it was “investigating and will determine whether the aircraft flew above the tower at LaGuardia.”
Separately, the airline stated that it is “reviewing this event as part our safety system.”
According to the San Francisco International Airport, a go-around is when an aircraft aborts the landing procedure and returns back to the landing queue.
According to the FAA’s airplane flying manual, “if the pilot has any doubt about the landing surface, he should go around the area and take a closer look.”
Last week, a United Airlines flight bound for Newark was diverted on Friday to New York Stewart International Airport after experiencing high winds.
