The change was implemented the previous year, with the first time using ID to vote in May 2023’s regional elections.
According to the Electoral Commission, about 14, 000 people were able to vote in next year’s regional elections in England as a result of the new rules.
There are 22 appropriate forms of ID, including passports, driving licences, older or Handicapped Person’s bus passes and Oyster 60+ cards.
A voter authority certificate can also be requested for free by those who are registered to vote.
If the law actually made it necessary, Boris Johnson declared in 2004 that he would eat his ID at a polling station in protest.
He passed a law requiring identification to vote in 2022 and refuted concerns that it would prevent people from voting.

The previous prime minister first refused to abide by legislation he introduced while he was in Downing Street, according to Sky News, after staff at the polling station were forced to do so.
In South Oxfordshire, where a police and crime commissioner for the Thames Valley is being chosen, Mr. Johnson, who introduced the Elections Act that required photo identification in 2022, was trying to cast his ballot.
In England, passports, driving licences, orange badges and certain native travel cards are accepted forms of voter ID.

According to the Electoral Commission in England, the new rules prevented 14,000 people from voting in the local elections held in England last year.
There are 22 acceptable forms ID, including passports and driving licences.
Voters can also request a free document called a Voter Authority Certificate.

Sky News has learned that the former Prime Minister was forced to leave the polling station after he failed to comply initially with legislation he had introduced while in Downing Street.
Mr Johnson, the man who introduced the Elections Act that requires photo ID by 2022, attempted to vote in South Oxfordshire where the police and crime commissioner of the Thames Valley was being selected.
In England, passports (including driving licenses), blue badges (such as a driving licence), and certain local travel cards can be used to prove your identity.
A spokesperson for Mr Johnson didn’t deny that he hadn’t brought ID, but said he was able to vote today.
