Opinion| Steven Ahle| Supporters of the far-left rioters filed a motion in a Kings County Court in order to recall Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan.
They filed seven charges against the mayor, however, only one charge is applicable for a recall petition.
That is the charge that the Seattle police used tear gas to break up the riots that had engulfed the city since the death of George Floyd.
As bad as Durkan has been, siding with the violent agents of two domestic terror groups, it is a virtual guarantee that whoever they would vote in will be extreme far left, possibly socialist Kshame Sawant, who actually aided and abetted the rioters by giving them the key to city hall. A protest to Durkan’s private home also ensued.
The petitioners must now gather up 50,000 legitimate signatures before a new election can be held.
The winner of the recall election must garner 50% support in order to win outright. If not, the top two vote-getters will compete in a runoff election.
The winner would be sworn in immediately and take over for Durkan.
The recall petitioners accused Durkan of “endanger(ing) the peace and safety of the community” by allowing the police to “leak false information about fabricated crimes and threats to the media” .
What they are angry about is that Durkan took (some) action to try to prevent rioters from destroying the city.

The petitioners filed seven charges against Durkan, but of those charges, only one of them was applicable to support the recall election— the use of tear gas and other chemical agents against rioting in the streets that erupted in Seattle during the protests and over George Floyd’s death in May.
Seattle Police used pepper spray and flash bangs to stop the riots in Seattle, which had been going on for days since Floyd’s death.
The recall effort is called the “Fire the Mayor” campaign.
