Kennedy Jr.’s campaign brought in $2.6 million in May and had a little over $6.4 million in cash at the end of the month. This amount is significantly lower compared to the large fundraising efforts of his two main competitors. Kennedy’s independent presidential campaign disclosed the modest fundraising results in Federal Election Commission documents released on Wednesday. The records reveal that his team spent $6.3 million in May in order to gain access to ballots nationwide and secure a spot in the upcoming presidential debate on CNN. Approximately $2.7 million was spent on a consulting firm that focuses on helping candidates gain access to the ballot. However, these efforts seemed to be futile as the network demanded that candidates be on enough ballots and receive a minimum of 15% in national polls by a specific deadline. His fundraising amount is significantly less compared to the large amounts raised by President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump in recent months. Trump’s team said he raised over $141 million in May with the RNC following his guilty verdict in the New York hush money trial. Biden has also been bringing in large sums of money. He garnered approximately $30 million at a Hollywood event last weekend with special guests such as former President Barack Obama, George Clooney, and Julia Roberts. Kennedy has counted on his running mate, Nicole Shanahan, to provide a significant amount of funding for his campaign. After Shanahan’s divorce from Sergey Brin, one of the co-founders of Google, her personal wealth is believed to be approximately $1 billion.
