” Today, I say goodbye. Adios. I’ve had much. I’m now a nearly longtime Democrat who is joining the growing number of people, including Latinos, who are leaving the Democratic Party, according to Romero.
” This is not the Democratic Party that I once championed. I do not recognize it again, and I cannot continue. I changed my voting registration today as the sun was rising to Republican, which has, under Donald Trump, become the champion of working people, the large tent. Los Angeles Daily News reports:
Romero, 69, was born in Barstow. She was elected to the state Senate in 2001 and the California Assembly in 1998. She represented the cities of Azusa, Baldwin Park, Covina, Duarte, El Monte, Industry, Irwindale, La Puente, Monterey Park, Rosemead, West Covina and Whittier.
Romero was the second woman to hold the position of majority leader in the California Senate, and she was sworn out in 2010.
At the news conference, California GOP Chairwoman Jessica Millan Patterson stated that Senator Romero, like many irritable Democrats, “none long recognized her previous party.” We encourage everyone to join us in our fight for better schools, safer neighborhoods, and a stronger economy for all to prosper, because California deserves so many more.
Romero is a part of a larger trend, according to Millan, noting that California Republicans saw an increase in voter registration of about 200, 000 over the previous year while California Democrats saw a decline of more than 100, 000.
Romero gave a lengthy list of justifications for her leaving the party in her speech. This included the loss of parental rights in schools, increased crime, the rising cost of living, California’s homeless crisis, increased funding for foreign wars and the lack of border security.

From the Washington Examiner:
Romero even hit the Democrats on women’s rights, criticizing the undermining of Title IX protections, and going too far on abortion. Immigration, crime, and the rising cost of living were topics of her criticism as well.
” But perhaps my biggest disagreement with my old party then lies with the right to have quality schools for all, especially as congressman Kevin Kiley and I have fought together for school choice for poor and minority children who are confined in severely failing schools,” she continued.
Romero concluded that she left the party” with sadness, but it is with the belief that this is best for the future. I made the most of my time there. I tried reforms, I spoke out, I voted. Today, I turn to the future. a place where completely speech and opportunities exist. I am excited to join a party that was started by the greatest American, Abraham Lincoln, and the challenges of building a new wonderful republic.”
Romero has become more important of the Democrat Party since leaving office in 2010. In a November 2021 op-ed for the California Globe, she warned about a decline of the party unless an overhaul was undertaken.”}]] [[{“value”:”

Romero also criticized the Democrats for their stance on women’s issues, criticizing the erosion of Title IX protections and their overreach on abortion. She also criticized crime, immigration, and the rising costs of living.
“But my biggest divide with my old party is over school choice, freedom of education, and the right for all children to attend quality schools, especially since Congressman Kevin Kiley has fought alongside me, especially for school choices for poor and minorities children who are trapped in chronically failed schools,” she said.
